ABSOLUTES, CONVICTIONS, AND PREFERENCES

Scripture is the absolute authority in all matters of faith and practice and, as such, is the
final Word on what is absolute. Outside of the Scriptural realm of absolutes, convictions are
those areas that do not have eternal consequences in which Believers can differ as to the
interpretation of God’s Word. Preferences are neither absolutes nor convictions; rather, they are
reflective of one’s desires based on traditions or individual taste.

THE BIBLE

It is the infallible, inerrant Word of God. It is the only supernaturally-inspired, written revelation
from God to man, and is the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

GOD

There is one true God. He is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe, and has revealed Himself
as eternally-existent in a three-part Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who are co-
equa l. Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 43:10-11, Matthew 28:19,

JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God. The second person of the Trinity, He was born of
a virgin through miraculous conception. He lived a sinless life, offered Himself as the perfect
sacrifice for all sins, died on the cross, and arose after three days to demonstrate His power
over sin and death. He sits at the right hand of God as the exclusive mediator between God and
man, and will return again to earth to rule and reign. Matthew 1:18-23, Matthew 28:1-6, Acts
1:9,11, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 John 3:4-5

THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, equal with God the Father and Jesus the
Son. He remains on earth as the Comforter for every Believer, empowering them with an
understanding of spiritual truth. There are nine fruits of the Spirit, which are evidence of
a Spirit-filled life and spiritual maturity. John 14:16-17, John 14:26, 1 Corinthians 12:31,
1 Corinthians 14, Galatians 5:22-23

THE FALL OF MAN

We were created in the image and likeness of God. Adam’s voluntary choice to disobey God,
however, led to the first sin, which brought into effect the cursed earth, began the process of
physical death, and caused spiritual separation from God. We exist in eternal separation from
God unless we accept the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Genesis 1:26, Genesis 3:1-
7, Genesis 3:17, Romans 5:12-21

THE SALVATION OF MAN

We are saved from the penalty of sin exclusively through acceptance of God’s offer of
forgiveness. This forgiveness came through the crucifixion, death, and bodily resurrection of
His Son, Jesus Christ. We are unable to achieve this forgiveness through any other means or
methods. Our faith in Jesus Christ causes our sins to be forgiven and remembered no more.
We are granted eternal life, and we become the adopted children of God. John 3:16, John 14:6,
Romans 4:4-5, Romans 6:23, Galatians 4:4-7, Hebrews 8:12,Hebrews 10:17

EVIDENCE OF SALVATION

The evidence of salvation is seen internally and externally. The internal evidence is the direct
witness of the Holy Spirit. The external evidence is the fruit of the Spirit, as we have become
new creations because we have been transformed into the image of Christ. Romans 8:16,
Galatians 5:22-23, 2 Corinthians 3:18

ORDINANCES OF THE CHURCH

The evidence of salvation is seen internally and externally. The internal evidence is the direct
witness of the Holy Spirit. The external evidence is the fruit of the Spirit, as we have become
new creations because we have been transformed into the image of Christ. Romans 8:16,
Galatians 5:22-23, 2 Corinthians 3:18

● Water Baptism – Baptism by immersion is a public profession of our faith, and is
symbolic of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is our testimony
to others that we have chosen to die to sin and have now been raised to walk in
newness of life. Matthew 28:19,Romans 6:4, Hebrews 10:22

● Communion – The Lord’s Supper consists of the bread that represents the
broken body of Jesus Christ and the cup which represents His shed blood, and is
both a memorial of Jesus’ suffering and death and a celebration of our salvation.

THE CHURCH AND ITS MISSION

The Church is the body of Christ, made up of all those who are Believers in the one true
God and His gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. The collective purpose of the church is to
worship God, equip Believers for ministry, and fulfill the Great Commission. Mark 16:15-20, 1
Corinthians 12:12-28, Ephesians 4:11-13

ETERNITY

Every person ever created will either exist forever in the Kingdom of heaven with God, or in hell,
forever separated from God. Where a person spends eternity depends entirely on their decision
to choose or refuse forgiveness and salvation. Once a person dies a physical death, this choice
is final. No power in the Universe can separate a Believer from God and, conversely, nothing
can be done for an unbeliever who dies apart from God. Matthew 25:31-46, Romans 2:1-9,
Romans 8:35, 38-39, 1 Corinthians 4:5, Revelation 20:10-15, Revelation 21:1-22
